FASHIONPHILE is B Corp Certified

It’s official. We’re a B Corporation!

FASHIONPHILE, the premier destination for buying and selling pre-owned ultra-luxury goods, recently earned B Corp certification, having met the strong requirements of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Based on the B Impact assessment, FASHIONPHILE earned an overall score of 83.2. FASHIONPHILE joins a growing number of companies that have redefined business to be a force for good, both for people and the planet.

What does B Corp mean?

B Corp companies are those that have been certified by the non-profit B Lab to have met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency through the B Impact Assessment. Certified B Corp companies are for-profit, but they use their power to do more than seek profit; they use their profit and growth to generate positive impact. By achieving B Corp certification, FASHIONPHILE has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility, sustainability, and transparency and to creating a better world for everyone.

So, how did we get here?

In a process that began in October of 2021, our VP of Impact, Nora Cummings, worked tirelessly to verify and validate FASHIONPHILE’s commitment to people and the planet.

Our Commitment to the Planet

FASHIONPHILE has always been committed to sustainable initiatives, and becoming B Corp certified has only reinforced this commitment. FASHIONPHILE approaches every aspect of its business as an opportunity to do more good and be better for the planet.

In our buildings, we are mindful of energy efficiency, waste management, and recycling, with a focus on reducing our carbon footprint, tracking our greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with EPA compliance standards, and providing composting bins throughout our facilities to minimize waste.

FASHIONPHILE has also installed solar panels to power its operations and closely monitors its renewable energy usage. FASHIONPHILE’s shipping boxes are 100% recyclable with FSC certification.

Our dedication to sustainability is an ongoing effort, and we remain committed to making positive impacts both near and far.

Our Commitment to People

Additionally, our commitment to people is steadfast. FASHIONPHILE has embraced a hybrid work environment, with many employees working remotely and taking virtual meetings to reduce the need for travel. Our Flagship in New York City (Chelsea) is easily accessible via public transportation, further reducing its carbon footprint. FASHIONPHILE also takes social responsibility very seriously, seeking out opportunities to build relationships with non-profit organizations and doing what is necessary to support their efforts and give back to the community. This year, FASHIONPHILE celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month by partnering with The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to support HHF’s LOFT leadership and workforce development program. Through this program, tens of thousands of students and young professionals are connected to each other and to mentors and resources, helping to pave the way for future success.

Additionally, FASHIONPHILE participated in the annual Fashion Scholarship Fund, committed to awarding scholarships to fashion students passionate about bettering the fashion industry and who share our belief that we need to take a closer look at the supply chain. These scholarships support students with social, environmental, and sustainability goals, allowing them to make a positive impact in their careers in the fashion industry.

Even locally, 20% of FASHIONPHILE employees volunteered to help the San Diego Food Bank Drive in 2021, and this year, FASHIONPHILE participated in an Earth Day event cleaning the Carlsbad beach. Through these ongoing efforts, FASHIONPHILE is proud to demonstrate a strong commitment to social responsibility.

What We’re Doing Moving Forward

It doesn’t stop at being B Corp certified. FASHIONPHILE strives to continue the journey toward sustainability and social responsibility while being an educational resource for our customers.

A better company always starts with making better choices. In addition to enhancing our packaging, energy and consumption efficiency, and waste management and disposal, we will also continue to prioritize our community involvement through giving back and volunteering. We recently implemented a donation match for our employees and we added additional hours for our employees to volunteer.

We believe that building a positive and strong company culture that promotes equity, inclusion, and belonging is essential to attracting and retaining talented employees. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we will conduct complete lifecycle assessments of our operations and overhaul our policies to align with B Corp standards.

We also recognize the importance of educating our customers about circularity and cultivating valuable partnerships with organizations like the American Circular Textiles policy group (ACT) to rethink the end-of-life of fashion products. Our ultimate goal is to reduce and stop fashion waste, which we believe is the next big challenge facing the fashion industry. Our journey as a B Corp is a never-ending process of improvement, with a focus on workers, communities, and the environment. At FASHIONPHILE, we are committed to making incremental improvements every day and pushing ourselves to do better. Read more on our B Corp profile page here

For the last 20 years, we have been, and will always be, motivated to extend the life of luxury handbags and accessories through the circular economy. Resale is a mentality and a way of life for FASHIONPHILE. We believe that buying and selling perpetuates circularity and keeps ultra-luxury items alive.
