History of the Louis Vuitton Alma Bag
The Louis Vuitton Alma gets its name from the enchanting Place de l’Alma in Paris. While reminiscent of the Steamer bag, in 1934, the Alma, originally named “Squire,” emerged as a refined evolution of the Steamer — portable yet offering enhanced protection for its contents. In 1950, the “Squire” was remanded to “Champs-Elysee” and then renamed “Alma” as we know it today in 1992. Interestingly, this masterpiece wasn’t just meant for anyone but was initially conceived for none other than the legendary Coco Chanel.
Louis Vuitton Alma Styles + Sizes
When the Alma bag was first introduced, the original model had a slightly elongated shape with a smooth base (no feet). The newer models of the Alma bag got a little upgrade with a slightly more curved dome-like shape with feet added to the based and a clochette. Both versions of the LV Alma exude their Art Deco heritage.

The Louis Vuitton Alma is available in five different sizes. From smallest to largest, the Alma bag comes in the Nano size, BB, PM, MM, and GM.
The Alma Nano measures approximately 6.5” x 4.75” x 3”
The Alma BB, introduced in 2010, measures approximately 9” x 6.75” x 4.5”
The Alma PM measures approximately 12” x 9.75” x 6”
